VISION, MISSION AND CORE VALUES

Vision

A church that grows disciples and starts disciple-making churches.

Colossians 1:28 “Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom;

that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:”

Mission

Our mission is to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ by knowing Him through His Word,

and by making Him known to the world.

LBBC is a worshipping community, a witnessing community, and a working community.

Core Values

1. Christ-centered, expository preaching

  • 1Corinthians 2:1-2  And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

  • Christ-centered preaching points to Jesus Christ and His completed work on the cross as the only source of grace that frees believers from the bondage of sin to live in obedience to God’s Word and to serve the Savior.

  • “Expositional preaching is preaching that takes the main point of a scriptural text, makes it the main point of the sermon, and applies it to life today.”[1]

  • The preaching and teaching of the Word was central to the ministry of the apostles (Acts 2:42-47).

  • The Word is the primary means of bringing a Christian to maturity (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and must not be neglected (Acts 6:2).

  • The pastor, then, is responsible for the teaching of the Word of God to the local church.

  • The church leaders must see to it that God’s people continually devote themselves to the study and practice of the Word of God.

2. God-focused, vibrant worship

  • Psalm 95:6  O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

  • John 4:24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

  • Worship is the only acceptable response to Who God is and what He has done for His Children. God must be the focal point of any element included in the worship services.

  • God has made it clear in Scripture that He cares about how He is worshipped just as much that He alone is worshiped. Worship is not mere externalism or formalism. Worship is a response of one’s spirit based on God’s truth.

3. Spirit-dependent leadership

  • Act 6:3-4  Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

  • Ministry is a spiritual work and must be led by men and women who have been redeemed by the Holy Spirit, and who are completely surrendered to and dependent the Holy Spirit for wisdom and strength to lead.

4. Life-changing ministries

  • 1 Corinthians 12:7  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

  • Ephesians 4:11-12  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

  • Individual believers and the church are edified as Christians exercise their spiritual gifts in serving one another.

5. Gospel-preaching missions and outreach

  • Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

  • Matthew 28:18-20  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

  • God has given every Christian the clear command of faithfully and relentlessly proclaiming the message of the Gospel to all men in all places.

6. Life-on-life relationships

  • Ephesians 4:32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

  • Hebrews 10:24-25  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

  • 1 John 4:11  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

  • Since every Christian is a disciple of Jesus Christ, the body must have a culture that encourages and enables each Christian to look to others for help in being like Christ and to look to help other Christians be like Christ.
